Gadhada First Chapter:-18

In the Samvat year 1876, on the sixth day of the dark half of the month of Margashirsh. Swami Shree Sahajanandji Maharaj, was seated on a wooden bedstead laid in the open space in front of the verandah of the hall facing the west in the early morning when the last quarter of the night was still to go, in the Durbar of Dada Khachar in Gadhada. He had put on all white garments. Then He called for the saints and the devotees. and sat before them engrossed in deep thoughts for a long time. And then began to address the assembly. He said. “Listen to what I have to say today. I rather feel like not telling you. But you are all dear to me. So I have decided that I must tell you what I think. Only those who understand what I am going to say now. and act accordingly will be freed from the bondage of Maya. In the Samvat year 1876 on the fifth day of the dark half of the month of Margashirsh. Shreeji Maharaj was seated in the Durbar of Dada Khachar in Gadhada, in the hall facing the west and was listening to the reading of some holy texts. He had put on a white upper garment over His shoulder and covered His body with a white cotton shawl. He had put on a white turban on His head. A garland of yellow flowers adorned His neck. A tassel of yellow flowers was hanging from His turban. He seemed to be in an extremely pleasant mood. Then He called for Muktanand Swami and Gopalanand Swami and other saints. Addressing the assembly He said, “I feel there are some traces of unholy elements still lingering in our holy fellowship. Today 1 want to drive away these unholy elements and start a new chapter. I want to see that the new chapter spreads among the great saints, and followers of Sankhyayog [path of renunciation], and the followers of Karmyog. [path of action]. In the Samvat year 1876, on the fourth day of the dark half of the month of Margashirsh. Shreeji Maharaj was seated in the Durbar of Dada Khachar in Gadhada. He had put on all white garments. Saints and devotees from various places had gathered before Him in an assembly. Then Shreeji Maharaj started His discourse with these words, “One who is able to discriminate sat the reality, from asat, the unreality, will be able to know his own faults, and will try to eliminate them with determination. But if he comes to know of any fault in a saint or a satsangi a member of the holy fellowship, he will not look to it, but will imbibe his virtues only. And in no case he will find faults in God. He will always believe as truth, whatever is said by the saint or God. He will never doubt their intention. In the Samvat year 1876, on the third day of the dark half of the month of Margashirsh, Shreeji Maharaj was seated in the Durbar of Dada Khachar in Gadhada. He had put on all white garments. Saints and devotees from various places had gathered before Him in an assembly. Then starting His discourse Shreeji Maharaj said. “One whose heart is full of devotion of the Lord, always thinks that he should do whatever the Lord and His saints tell him to do. Such a devotee is said to be a brave devotee. A brave devotee will never think that he will be able to do this much only, and will not be able to do other things. To hold the divine image of God in one’s own heart requires bravery. Even after many attempts, if he is not able to fix it in his heart, he will not lose patience, but will keep up his faith in God over and over again. In the Samvat year 1876, on the second day of the dark half of the month of Margashirsh, Shreeji Maharaj was seated facing the south on a wooden bedstead under the neem tree near the temple of Shree Vasudav Narayan in the Darbar of Dada Khachar in Gadhada. He had put a white turban on His head and a white upper garment over His shoulder. He had covered His body with a white cotton ‘shawl’. Tassels of yellow flowers were hanging from His turban and bunches of yellow flowers studded with roses adorned His ears. Garlands of yellow flowers adorned His neck. He was playing with a white ‘sevanti’ flower in His right hand. Saints and devotees from various places had gathered before Him in an assembly. Then Shreeji Maharaj started His discourse with an illustration. He said, ‘There is a devotee who is a renunciate and has renounced the worldly life. But his attitude towards vairagya [non-attachment] is not very intense. In the Samvat year 1876, on the first day of the dark half of the month of Margashirsh at night, Shreeji Maharaj was seated on a wooden bedstead laid on a platform under the neem tree near the temple of Shree Vasudev Narayan in the Darbar of Dada Khachar in Gadhada. He had put on red trousers and a red jacket. He had wrapped a rich garment with golden borders round His head, and an equally ric9 garment round His waist. Pearl necklaces adorned His neck and tassels of pearls were hanging from His turban. Saints and devotees from various places had gathered before Him in an assembly. Then Nityanand Swami asked a question, “Is there one soul residing in different bodies, or is there as many souls as there are bodies? Saints and devotees from various places had gathered before Him in an assembly. Then Brahmanand Swami asked, “Maharaj, what is the nature of vasana?” Shreeji Maharaj replied. “The desire prevailing in one’s heart for objects one had enjoyed, or seen, or heard about, in the past is called vasana. The desire arising for enjoying the objects which have not been enjoyed at all is also called vasana. “There upon Muktanand Swami asked, ‘who can be called an ekantik bhakta [a single minded devotee]?” Shreeji Maharaj replied, “One who does not desire for anything except God and worships Him, identifying himself with Brahm is called an ekantik bhakta”. read more
