On the eleventh day of the first fortnight of Paush of Samvat 1881, Swami Shri Sahajanandji Maharaj was seated on a wooden cot near the temple of Shri Vasudev Narayan in the Durbar of Shri Dada Khachar at Gadhada. He was dressed in all white clothes. Munis and devotees from the various places where seated before him in an assembly.
Shriji Maharaj then said to the assembly, ‘ Please listen to me. Let us have dialogue about God.’ Hearing this, the sadhus stoped singing devotional songs and stopped their musical instruments. They sat then with folded hands to hear the talk.
Shriji Maharaj then said, ‘ God in the phases of his various incarnations of Rama and Krishna etc appears on this earth to redeem the souls. During such appearances, he always remains above the influence of Maya and her evolutes, even while enjoying the sense objects devoutly offered by his devotees. He acts with fearlessness due to his divine power. The wordly wise people, when observe God enjoying sense objects offered to him, they find fault with God and feel that though he is God, he seems to have much more attachment to the sense objects than they. Thus they equate him with ordinary human beings, due to their ignorance of his real form and divinity. This is nothing but Maya of God. The saint who attains the state of Brahm remains above the allurement of seductive five sense objects, then how is it that Parabrahma – one who is beyond Brahm- Shri Krishna – who is beyond Brahm can not remain immune to the influence of five eternal entities and their evolutes ? He can.
A saint who has realized his soul and possesses the attributes of soul consciousness and detachment and yet if he has no devotional love for God, the attributes of soul consciousness and detachment would become fruitless. Such superior attributes without devotional fervour are like rich dishes of delicacies, but without salt. Shukdevji, even though fully in Brahmic state and absolutely detached, studied Shrimad Bhagwat to offer devotional love to Lord Shri Krishna. Therefore, it is a serious deficiency if a soul-conscious and detached saint or devotee does not have devotional love for God and this deficiency will become an impediment to his spiritual progress. And one who is full of devotion to God and yet is deficient in the attributes of soul consciousness and detachment is sure to be lured by the seductive five sense objects and will be deflected from the path of devotion. But a devotee who is thoroughly seasoned in these three, discards every thing except God, as insignificant. He is not lured by any of the objects or attributes. Therefore one who possesses all three redemptive attributes, becomes immune to any flaw. He is a true enlightened, a true single minded devotee ! ‘
