In the Samvat year 1876 on the second day of the dark half of the month of Magh at night, Shreeji Maharaj was seated on a wooden bedstead laid in the veranda in front of the hall facing the west near the temple of Shree Vasudev Narayan in the Durbar of Dada Khachar in Gadhada. He had put a white turban on His head. He had put on a white jacket and a while trousers. Saints and devotees from various places had gathered before Him in an assembly.
Then Shreeji Maharaj said, “Now ask me some questions.” Thereupon Poornanand Swami asked, ”The ten senses are the products of rajogun (pleasure seeking attributes of Maya), and the four kinds of antahkaran [consciences] are the products of sattvagun (divine attributes of Maya). It means that the senses and the conscience are the products of Maya. But God transcends Maya. Then how is it possible to realize God with
the help of the conscience which is the product of Maya? Also how is it possible to realize God with the help of the organs of senses like eyes, ears, etc. which are also the products of Maya?”
Then Shreeji Maharaj said, “Do you mean to say that because God can be realized by the conscience and the organs of senses which are products of Maya. therefore God also must be a product of Maya? Is that your doubt ?” Thereupon Poornanand Swami and all other saints said. ‘Yes Maharaj, that is our doubt. You have put it very clearly.”
Shreeji Maharaj said, ‘The answer to your question is this. The surface of the earth is five hundred million yojan (Yojan= 4 miles] in length as well as breadth. There are innumerable objects on the face of the earth. And earth as a basic element pervades through all of them. Earth has a separate existence of its own also. Now if we think f m the point of earth, all the objects are made of earth. and there exists no other element
except earth. Now earth is the product of one part of water. Water surrounds earth on all sides. Water is below the earth, water is above the earth, water is within the earth also. Water is all-pervading. Hence if we think from the point of water, there exists no other element except water, and earth does not exist. Now water is also the product of one part of light. If we think from the point of light. light only exists. and water does not exist. And light is also produced from one part of air. If we think from the point d air, only air exists and light does not exist. And air is also produced from one part of akash [space], If we think from the point of space, only space is seen every where. and the other four elements like air, light, etc.. and their evolutes the pind body] and the brahmand universe] are not at all perceptible. Now space is also produced from one part of the tamas ahankar [evil ego]. The three kinds of ego: sattvik, rajas, and tamas, and the five basic elements like earth, water, etc., and the senses and their presiding deities. and the conscience, all are produced from one part of Mahattattva. Now if we think from the point of Mahattattva. only Mahattattva exists and the three kinds of ego. and the basic elements, and the senses and their deities, none of them exists. Mahattattva is also produced from one part of Pradhan- Prakruti If we think from the point of Prakruti only Prakruti exists, and Mahattattva also does not, exist. Prakruti also merges into one part of Purush at the time of dissolution. And it emerges from one part of Purush at the time of re-creation. Hence if we think from the point of Purush, only Purush exists. and Prakruti also does not exist.
Now innumerable such Purush are produced from one part of Mahamaya If we think from the point of Mahamaya, only Mahamaya exists and Purush also does not exist. And ‘Mahamaya’ is also produced 6rom one part of Mahapunrsh If we think from the point of Mahapurush, only Mahapurush exists. and Mahamaya also does not exist. And ‘Mahapurush’ also is produced from one region of Akshar. the divine abode of Lord Purushottam Bhagavan. If we think from the point of Akshar, only Akshar exists, and all other things like Mahapurush. etc.. do not exist. Now Purushottam Bhagavan who transcends Akshar is the ultimate cause of creation, sustenance and dissolution of everything. Now, that which is the cause, pervades its creation. a . also exists as a separate entity. If we think from the point of the ultimate cause, i.e., Purushottam Bhagavan, only Purushottam Bhagavan is perceptible and nothing else is seen, Now this very same Purushottam Bhagavan manifests Himself on the face of this earth to every human being out of compassion. The souls who realize the greatness of Purushottam Bhagavan by coming into contact with the saints. become one with Purushottam Bhagwan along with their senses and conscience. Thereby they realize God. A diamond can be cut by a diamond only and not by anything else. God also can be realized with the help of God only. He cannot be realized with the help of the senses and the conscience which are the products of Maya”. With these words Shreeji Maharaj finished His discourse, uttered ‘Jay Sachchidanand’ and went to His residence.
