In the Samvat year 1876 on the fourteenth day of the bright half of the month of Magh at the time of sunset. Swami Shree Sahajanandji Maharaj was seated on a wooden bedstead laid on the platform under the neem tree in front of the temple of Shree Vasudev Narayan in the Durbar of Dada Khachar in Gadhada. Two small lamps were lighted before Him. He had put on all white garments. A garland of yellow flowers adorned
His neck Wreaths of yellow flowers adorned His wrists. Saints and devotees from various places had gathered before Him in an assembly.
Then Shreeji Maharaj asked the assembly to start questions and answers. Thereupon Brahmanand Swami asked, ‘When we try to fix our mind on God, it has to be directed there forcibly. But it is drawn towards the worldly matters of its own accord.
What is the reason?’
Shreeji Maharaj replied, “The mind of a true devotee would never stray anywhere except God. He is very careful and finds it very difficult to fix his mind on worldly matters, while men of the world find it very difficult to fix their minds on God. A person who cannot fix his mind on God cannot be called a devotee of God. But if he joins the fold of the holy fellowship he will become a devotee gradually by continuously listening the talks of the saints.”
Then Brahmanand Swami asked, “What is the means by which we can fix our mind on God as above?” Shreeji Maharaj replied, “Such a means is antardrutshti
(looking within]. Now what is antardrushti ? To look with a steady eye at the divine image of God who has revealed Himself personally to you is called antardrushti. If a person can see the-Shatchakra [six mystical complexes of nerves within the body],
or if he Can see the divine abodes of Cod like Golok, or Vaikunth. ,but if he cannot see God, then it is not antardrushti.
One must visualize the divine image of God in his heart and look at Him with a steady eye. Or he must look with a steady eye at the divine image of God which he sees outside. That is antardrushti. But if one’s mind strays everywhere else except God, then it is called bahyadrushti [looking outside]”. Having finished His talks, Shreeji Maharaj asked the saints to form pairs and start questions and answers amongst themselves. The saints then carried on the discussion for a long time. All the while Shreeji Maharaj listened to their discussion and evaluated their intelligence.
